Engraving is the practice of incising (cutting or carving) a design, inscription, or image into a hard, often flat surface. It is a subtractive process, meaning material is physically removed from the substrate to create recessed grooves that form the design.
It is one of the oldest and most durable methods of creating a permanent mark.
It is widely used for:
- Personalization: Trophies, jewelry, watches, awards, and gifts.
- Art & Printmaking: Historically, creating copper or steel plates for printing money, stamps, or fine art prints (called intaglio).
- Industrial Marking: Serial numbers, logos, and critical information on metal parts and tools.
